Chemin du Jura bernois, Stage 2/4

The enjoyable hike over the hills of the Jura leads through wetlands, past attractive ancient trees and across wide pastures with a view of the Chasseral. On the way you see drystone walls, stud horses, tree-lined roads and baroque churches, and you pass the place where Tête de Moine cheese was invented.

From the Sornetan bus stop, the hiking trail initially descends gently before climbing through woodland and across open meadows to Moron. In the small village, the route passes the church. Signs of settlement soon become less frequent, and the trail reaches the Col du Fuet. A short section here runs outside the marked hiking trail network before rejoining a clearly defined hiking trail.

At the Mont viewpoint, the landscape opens out. Pastures and occasional stretches of woodland now characterise the broad Montbautier ridge. With steady ups and downs, the route crosses the Jura heights and reaches its highest point at 1,184 m. The trail then descends gradually towards Tramelan. It enters the village via Prés aux Liattes, passing the Church of Saint-Michel, built in 1910. After around 15 kilometres and just over four hours, the hike ends at Tramelan railway station.
