01/ Overview
The route
This short iron-themed trail links the woods and open pastures around Lajoux. Near Le Chételat, the circuit climbs to just over 1,000 metres.
The Circuit du fer begins in Lajoux, with the starting point around 350 m from the Lajoux JU, poste bus stop. Initially, the iron-themed trail leads out of the village and down into the woods. Around half of the almost six-kilometre circuit runs outside the marked hiking trail network, while other sections follow a yellow-marked hiking trail.
Beyond the first stretch of woodland, meadows and pastures open up. Gently rising and falling, the route climbs near Le Chételat to its highest point at around 1,030 m. Open terrain then alternates with further stretches of woodland before the first houses of Lajoux reappear. After around an hour and a half, the circuit ends near the Lajoux JU, poste bus stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
