01/ Overview
The route
A challenging climate and geology trail: from Pontresina via Alp Languard and rocky heights to the Segantini Hut, then down via Muottas Muragl to Punt Muragl.
The climate trail begins at the Pontresina, Sesselb. Languard bus stop with a steep climb out of the village. Alp Languard is reached after just over one kilometre. Above it, the mountain trail crosses open pastures into rocky high-alpine terrain and continues to Fuorcla da la Chamanna.
Near Munt da la Bês-cha, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,730 m. Around the Segantini Hut, the geological hiking trail passes through barren terrain; some sections lie outside the marked hiking trail network. The trail then descends towards Muottas Muragl. This popular excursion mountain offers views across the Upper Engadin and its chain of lakes.
The long descent begins at the Muottas Muragl mountain restaurant. It leads downhill across open slopes, later reaching the first trees and houses. After just under ten kilometres and a little over four and a half hours, the hike ends at the Punt Muragl valley station, with the bus stop of the same name only a few steps away.
