Senda Segantini, Stage 4/4

The last section of the Senda Segantini is physically demanding. Some of it follows a narrow path along the steep slope. The views of the 3000-m peaks around St. Moritz are spectacular. At 2730 m you reach the Segantini Hut where the famous painter died.

The 16-kilometre route begins right by the St. Moritz stop on Lake St. Moritz. Initially, a broad hiking trail follows the lakeshore and passes through the Stazerwald to Lej da Staz. Between woodland clearings and open meadows, it continues to Pontresina, where the long ascent begins after a little over two hours.

Above the village, the route becomes a white-red-white marked mountain trail. It climbs increasingly steeply through alpine pastures. Higher up, the meadows give way to rocky terrain. Near Munt da la Bês-cha, the hike reaches its highest point at around 2,730 m, after a total ascent of some 1,200 metres.

The mountain trail now begins a long descent towards Muottas Muragl. Across the open heights, the view over the Upper Engadin and its lakes defines the final section of this tour of just over five and a half hours. The destination lies within the municipality of Samedan; the Muottas Muragl stop is just a few steps away.
