01/ Overview

The route

From the Corviglia, St. Moritz’s local mountain, a narrow path leads along the steep hillside across alpine pastures high above the tree line. The view of the valley floor and the mountain peaks above Pontresina is breathtaking. The hike ends in the attractive village of Bever.

From the Marguns (Val Saluver) stop, the mountain path sets off across open slopes. Initially it continues to climb, reaching its highest point at just under 2,500 m after around two kilometres. Here, rocky sections mingle with the pastures. From then on, the route heads almost entirely downhill, traversing the heights in broad bends with a few short counter-ascents.

A little beyond the halfway point, the path passes Alp Muntatsch, an inviting place for a break. The meadows then gradually give way to forest. The descent remains clearly perceptible, losing a total of over 800 metres in elevation by the time it reaches Bever. Over the final few kilometres, the valley floor draws closer before the mountain path comes to an end in Bever. After ten kilometres and just under three hours, the railway station is only a few minutes away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
