01/ Overview
The route
A short, steadily ascending hike on Pilatus: from Krienseregg through extensive woodland to Bielilücke and on to Fräkmüntegg, with views of Stanserhorn, Titlis and the Pre-Alps.
The panoramic gondola lift runs from Kriens up to Krienseregg, where the almost five-kilometre hike begins. PILU-Land lies right by the starting point; the trail then enters the forest. Climbing steadily, it follows the cantonal border towards Schönenboden. By Fräkmüntegg, around 400 metres of elevation have been gained in just over two hours. Forest dominates much of the route.
The Schönenbodenhütte, belonging to the Alpenfreunde Pilatus, provides a notable landmark on the long ascent through the forest. Where the trees thin out, views extend to Stanserhorn, Titlis and across the Pre-Alps. The hiking trail continues uphill and, shortly before the destination, reaches Bielilücke at just under 1,400 m. From there, it is only a short distance to Fräkmüntegg. The route ends at the gondola station, at its highest point of 1,417 m.
