01/ Overview
The route
From Schlössli Schauensee, the trail climbs through meadows and woodland to Krienseregg. Along the way, views open up over Lucerne, the lake and the Alps; at the top, a raised bog, rest areas and PILU-Land await.
From the Kriens (Pilatusbahn) stop, the trail leaves the built-up area and immediately begins the long ascent. Above Kriens, it passes Schlössli Schauensee. This cultural asset of regional importance, with its medieval circular tower, provides a striking landmark early in the walk.
Open meadows and stretches of woodland then alternate. Via Bruederhuse and Schwand, the broad hiking trail climbs steadily uphill, gaining around 530 metres in just over four kilometres. Along the way, views open up over Lucerne, the lake and the Alps. Despite the straightforward route, this almost continuous ascent requires a good level of fitness.
Near Gibelegg, the route reaches its highest point at around 1,040 m. Rest areas on the edge of the raised bog offer a place to pause before a short section outside the marked hiking trail network leads across to Krienseregg. At the finish are PILU-Land and Restaurant Krienseregg with its sun terrace; the stop of the same name is just a few steps away.
