01/ Overview
The route
Fantastic scenery, reliable snow, views of Weissmies, Bietsch- and Fletschhorn – that’s the cross-country ski trail on the Simplon. It passes some amazing buildings: the Old Hostel used to offer shelter to travellers, and Barralhaus was a holiday home of the Bethlehem Missionary Society until 2007.
The short trail starts at the Barralhaus above Simplon Dorf. There is no public transport stop in the immediate vicinity; the nearest stop, Simplon Dorf, Hospiz-Niederalp, is around 600 m away.
From the starting point, the route leads across open terrain. Over its two kilometres, the total elevation difference remains modest at around 40 metres. Towards the end, the trail reaches its highest point at just over 1'850 m. After a little over half an hour, the loop closes back at the Barralhaus.
