01/ Overview
The route
The circular route from Zürich Höngg alongside the River Limmat soon leaves the city surroundings for a peaceful natural world. The route leads alongside the water, over the Werdinsel and past the Kloster Fahr (monastery) Relaxation can sometimes be close enough to touch.
From the Zürich, Hardturm stop, the circular route initially passes through Höngg. A short ascent brings the trail to its highest point, at just over 400 m, after only around one kilometre. The terrain then becomes flat again. Passing the small stormwater basin, the route reaches the Unterwasserkanal and follows it for a while before continuing along quieter paths on the outskirts of the city, between open meadows and woodland.
After just under six kilometres, the route reaches Kloster Fahr. The church and the Restaurant zu den zwei Raben make distinctive stopping points. The route then continues towards Glanzenberg. The return leg remains almost level and runs for long stretches outside the marked hiking trail network, with open areas alternating with woodland and the edges of residential areas. Towards the end, the trail briefly skirts the Hauserkanal before returning to Hardturm. The 15-kilometre circuit ends there after just under four hours, once again close to the stop of the same name.
