01/ Overview
The route
With its wide, flat valley floor, the Simmental offers an authentic cross-country experience. From the village, the cross-country ski trail to the Simmenfälle (waterfalls) approaches the shady end of the valley with the rugged Ammertenhorn cliffs. It is suited for beginners and experienced athletes alike.
The nine-kilometre trail begins near the Lenk, Tennisplatz bus stop. It heads out of the village, passes the Kuspo and soon reaches the open expanses of the Lenk valley floor. From here, the circuit gradually gains elevation.
Sweeping around in a broad arc, the trail climbs to its highest point at around 1,100 m. The ascent remains gentle, amounting to only around 80 metres in total. The trail then descends again towards Lenk. Meadows and pastures dominate the views for long stretches before the houses of the village draw closer once more towards the end.
Shortly before the finish, the trail reaches the Lenkerseeli and runs directly along its shore. Beside the lake are a public playground and a campsite. The final metres lead back to Lenk; the circuit ends near the Lenk, Gemeindehaus bus stop after just over two hours.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
