01/ Overview

The route

Easy, flat, sunny. Mostly surrounded by unspoilt nature and with some great views too. If this is what you are looking for, then this trail in Lauenen is just right for you.

The cross-country skiing loop starts near the Lauenen b. Gstaad, Rohrbrücke bus stop. The trail entrance is around 100 metres away. From Lauenen, the trail heads out across the flat valley floor. At first, wet meadows and open countryside dominate the scenery, with woodland occasionally edging close to the track.

With a total ascent of around 50 metres, the route remains gentle. After just over two kilometres, it reaches its highest point near Seebüel at around 1'250 m. Here, the trail passes through the surroundings of Lauenensee, a natural lake in the Bernese Alps. The lakeshore lies slightly off the route.

The track then turns back across the valley floor. Short stretches of woodland punctuate the return route before the landscape opens out again. After eight kilometres and just under two hours, the loop ends back in Lauenen, a few steps from Rohrbrücke.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
