01/ Overview
The route
After leaving the Gstaad ski area for historic Gsteig, this cross-country trail takes you into the valley with the rushing Saane beside you. Its sunny and quiet location with its gentle gradients makes this route especially suitable for enthusiastic skiers.
The 13-kilometre cross-country ski trail begins on the edge of the village near Gstaad railway station. Over the course of the route, the ascent totals around 260 metres. The houses are soon left behind, and open terrain sets the course up the valley. The trail crosses broad meadows, climbing mostly gently towards Feutersoey. The village is reached after about two-thirds of the route, after which the ascent continues. Occasional descents provide a break from the climb.
In the final third, the trail gains height once more and reaches its highest point near Walighürli at around 1,200 m. From there, it descends gradually. Towards the end, the trail follows the edge of the forest to the Loswäldli fire pit and continues to the first houses of Gsteig. After around three and a half hours, it ends near the Gsteig b. Gstaad, Post bus stop.
