01/ Overview
The route
A cross-country ski trail of just under ten kilometres through Fuchsernwald, raised bog and open meadows. Gentle climbs and descents add variety to this circuit near Finsterwald.
The circuit of just under ten kilometres begins at the ticket hut above Finsterwald. The trailhead is away from public transport; the nearest stop, Finsterwald LU, Lippern, is around 450 metres away. A little over two and a half hours should be allowed for the entire trail.
From the ticket hut, the trail heads into Fuchsernwald and continues across raised bog and open meadows. Gentle climbs and descents alternate without disrupting the circuit’s tranquil rhythm. After just over three kilometres, it reaches its highest point near Wissenegg at around 1,130 m. Shortly afterwards come the houses of Wissenegg and Wissenegg pond.
The circuit then crosses the open expanses near Homberg and Geugelhusen. Benches along the way provide opportunities for a break, while alternative trails allow for a shorter or longer variation. In the final section, the trail crosses Mettilimoos and completes the loop via Nesslebrunnebode. Gentle counter-climbs lead back to the ticket hut between expanses of moorland, forest edges and meadows.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
