Margelchopf-Gipfelweg

This hike leads across meadows and alps to Margelchopf, the imposing local mountain of Grabs. The grassy high plateau invites you to linger with its impressive view across the St. Gallen Rhine Valley and as far as Lake Constance. At the end, you can cool down in Lake Voralp.

From the Buchserberg, Berghaus bus stop, it is only a few steps to Berghaus Malbun. The mountain trail begins here, climbing steeply across open meadows and alpine pastures. By the summit area, almost 900 metres of ascent have been covered.

After just under two hours, the route reaches its highest point at around 2,160 m, close to the Margelchopf. The local mountain of Grabs is also the highest summit in the northeasternmost subsidiary ridge of the Alvier Group. Leaving the open terrain, the trail then turns downhill, initially continuing across slopes and pastures.

The long descent drops a good 1,000 metres towards Voralp. Farther down, woodland replaces the open terrain, and the mountain trail steadily loses elevation. Shortly before the end, the Voralpsee lies a little off the route. The trail passes directly by Berggasthof Voralp; over the final stretch, it becomes wider and ends at Kurhaus Voralp. The Voralp, Kurhaus bus stop is very close by.
