01/ Overview

The route

Twelve information panels accompany this short mountain circuit across open alpine pastures. Geology and biology take centre stage, while the Gamserrugg dominates the views.

From the Gamsalp stop, the geological circular trail near Wildhaus follows a mountain path marked in white-red-white. The route climbs across open alpine pastures towards the Gamserrugg. Twelve information panels draw attention to the geology and biology; the circuit is also listed in the «Erlebnis Geologie» directory. Over a distance of just over five kilometres, around 230 metres of ascent must be tackled. Despite the short distance, the demanding mountain path requires full attention along the way.

After about an hour, the highest point is reached at around 1,940 m. The summit of the Gamserrugg remains a good 250 m off the route, but dominates the open mountain landscape. The mountain path then leads back across the pastures to Gamsalp. After around an hour and a half, the circuit ends back at Lisighaus; the Gamsalp stop is just a few steps away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
