01/ Overview
The route
The first stage of the Toggenburger Höhenweg high trail starts in Wildhaus. Starting out accompanied by the dulcet tones of the Klangweg («Sound Trail»), hikers then get to enjoy the views of the Churfirsten mountains. The end of the stage at Selunalp is close by the prehistoric cave of Wildenmannlisloch.
From the Wildhaus, Dorf bus stop, the route leads through the village and past the Reformed church. At the photo spot, there is a view of the seven Churfirsten peaks. Beyond Lisighaus, the trail leaves the houses behind and continues in gentle undulations through open meadows and stretches of woodland. The Schwendiseen lakes lie well away from the route.
Just over halfway, the trail reaches the Lukas Kapelle and the Berggasthaus Sellamatt. Further stretches of woodland then lead back onto open pastures. The route continues to climb before, in the final fifth, a mountain trail takes over and ascends more steeply towards Selunalp.
Near the Wildmannlisloch, an Alpine karst cave in Toggenburg, a barbecue site lies almost directly on the route. Shortly before the destination, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1,630 metres. A little later, the four-and-a-half-hour hike ends at Selunalp. There is no public transport stop in the immediate vicinity; the nearest stop, Alt St. Johann, Starkenbach, is around 1.6 km away.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
