Churfirsten-Weg

Let’s go to the colourful, flower-filled Gluristal Valley and to the top of Hinterrugg, the highest of the seven Churfirsten Mountains. A stop at Chäserrugg is a must to let your eyes wander across six countries and 500 peaks. The tour ends with the informative Geology Loop Path around Gamserrugg.

The ascent begins at the Alp Sellamatt stop, crossing open pastureland. Berggasthaus Sellamatt stands beside the trail right at the start, after which the route climbs gently at first, then soon becomes considerably steeper. Almost the entire tour follows a mountain trail. At the Panorama viewpoint, the view opens out across the broad slopes of the Churfirsten.

The steady ascent continues into rockier terrain near Hinterrugg. About halfway along, the trail reaches its highest point at around 2,300 m. It then leads to Chäserrugg at 2,261 m, the easternmost of the seven Churfirsten; the summit restaurant stands directly on the route. This is followed by a long descent across open Alpine pastures and broad ridges. With no significant further ascent, the trail continues to lose elevation and reaches Gamsalp after around four and a half hours. The Gamsalp stop is just a few steps from the finish.
