01/ Overview
The route
The Fürstensteig is one of the most famous paths of the Rätikon mountain range and is a classic mountain hike in Liechtenstein. A first class tour full of extremes and surprises awaits you.
The hike begins in Gaflei, well away from public transport; the nearest stop, Sevelen, is around four kilometres away. From the starting point, the white-red-white marked mountain trail climbs through open meadows and pastures. Over the six-kilometre route, the ascent and descent each total around 560 metres; a good two and a half hours should be allowed for the circuit. As the trail gains height, the surroundings become increasingly barren, with rocky sections characterising the ascent.
A little over halfway along, the route reaches its highest point near the Geissberg at around 1,940 m. Here the long ascent eases, and the mountain trail turns back towards Gaflei. On the descent, the rocky terrain gradually gives way to forest. Winding between the trees, the trail steadily loses elevation and, after around six kilometres, ends back at the starting point in Gaflei.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
