01/ Overview

The route

From Sücka along the ridgeback. The trail leads up over the rocky ridge of the Drei Schwestern, with breathtaking views of the Rhine Valley, the Alps of Eastern Switzerland and Vorarlberg (Austria).

The starting point at Sücka is not served by public transport; from Weite, Plattis, the nearest stop, it is just over five kilometres. The mountain trail, marked in white-red-white, begins immediately behind Sücka. It climbs steeply across open meadows and pastures before entering the forest. Over twelve kilometres, the ascent totals around 1,100 metres.

Above the forest, the terrain becomes increasingly rocky. The mountain trail continues upwards, reaching its highest point at just over 2,100 m near the Ansaspitz after around seven kilometres. Most of the ascent has now been completed, but the route remains demanding with its pronounced elevation profile.

A long descent then leads through the mountain landscape to the Gafadura Hütte. In total, around 1,050 metres of descent must be negotiated. The destination is also far from public transport: the nearest stop, Haag, Rütistrasse, is around six kilometres away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
