01/ Overview

The route

The Principality of Liechtenstein offers plenty of sightseeing attractions. One of the idyllic routes leads from the tiny, peaceful village of Steg to Valüna. The stretch is set in a wonderful natural world and offers unadulterated relaxation.

The circular hike begins and ends in Steg FL. Over seven kilometres, it leads mainly through open meadows and pastures. With around 140 metres of elevation gain, the profile remains gentle. Nevertheless, the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail requires sure-footedness in places.

From the starting point, the route climbs gradually. The open landscape defines its character, with no major changes in terrain. Around the midpoint, the trail leaves the waymarked hiking network for an extended section. Reliable navigation is particularly important here. Roughly halfway along, the highest point is reached at around 1,400 m.

The route then descends again and rejoins the waymarked mountain trail leading back to Steg. Just under two hours should be allowed for the seven kilometres. The start and finish are not served by public transport. The nearest stop, Weite, Plattis, is almost six kilometres away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
