01/ Overview

The route

From Malbun on the mountain trail dedicated to Liechtenstein’s Princess Gina, over the Augstenberg with its superb views to the Pfälzer hut, then northwards, at the foot of the Rappastein, direction Sücka.

The starting point in Malbun is some distance from the public transport stop shown in the route profile; Weite, Lonna/Heuwiese is around eight kilometres away. From Malbun, the white-red-white waymarked mountain trail climbs steadily across open meadows and pastures. Rocky sections characterise the upper part of the route. After around five kilometres, the route reaches its highest point near the Naafkopf at just over 2,350 m. By this point, a large proportion of the total ascent of around 950 metres has already been completed.

The route then turns downhill. The mountain trail descends at length across open slopes, later passing through forest and down to Sücka. Over the approximately 15 kilometres, the total descent amounts to just over 1,100 metres; with a walking time of more than five hours, the hike requires a corresponding level of stamina. The destination is also not directly served by public transport. The nearest stop shown in the route profile, Weite, Plattis, is around five kilometres away.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
