01/ Overview
The route
Classic high-level trail with ridge hike and panoramic-experience summits, leads from Malbun via the Augstenberg to Liechtenstein's characteristic Drei Schwestern massif; wild, little touched, with views across the Rhine Valley and Voralberg to the Bodensee.
The long mountain hike begins in Malbun and initially climbs steeply on a white-red-white waymarked mountain trail. After around five kilometres, the highest point is reached near the Naafkopf at approximately 2,360 m. Open terrain characterises this early, high-altitude section of the route.
The mountain trail then continues northwards across meadows and pastures in a succession of ascents and descents. Over the 47 kilometres, the route accumulates around 2,500 metres of ascent and 3,600 metres of descent; just under 17 hours should be allowed for the entire route.
In the final third, the mountain trail becomes a yellow-waymarked hiking trail. As the elevation decreases, the wooded sections grow longer while the route continues down into the valley. Near its lowest point, it lies at just over 430 m before the final section ends in Ruggell.
