Panorama Rundweg Thunersee, Stage 4/4

Crossing the Spiezberg hill and following the picturesque path alongside Lake Thun, this final stage takes you back to the town of the same name. A detour to the church at Einigen will tell you more about the over 1,300 years of cultural history associated with Lake Thun, before you arrive back in the town with its many restaurants waiting to serve you.

From the Spiez boat landing, the route first leads to the castle church and Spiez Castle, directly beside Lake Thun. It then leaves the shore and climbs through residential areas to meadows and woodland. Following yellow-waymarked hiking trails, the highest point is reached after the first third of the route, at around 660 m. This section is characterised by constant ups and downs and the alternation between open countryside and shady stretches of woodland.

Around halfway, the ruins of Strättligen stand close to the trail. The remains of the 13th-century hilltop castle form a striking landmark before the route leads across the Gwattegg and through the Lustwäldchen woodland back towards the lake.

At Lake Thun, the route becomes flatter. It now follows the shore towards Thun, passes Scherzligen Church and reaches the surroundings of Schadau Castle at the point where the Aare flows out of the lake. Shortly afterwards, the hike of just under four hours ends at Thun railway station.
