Sigriswiler Rothorn Panoramaweg

This route takes hikers through a hilly landscape of forests and alpine meadows up to the steep limestone cliffs of the Sigriswiler Rothorn mountain chain. Here the view stretches far and wide to the Jura and to the many fourthousand metre peaks of the Bernese Oberland.

The demanding circular hike starts at the Schwanden (Sigriswil), Säge bus stop. After a short opening stretch on a broad hiking trail, the mountain path climbs steeply. Woodland alternates with open pasture, while the terrain above becomes increasingly rocky. After just over two hours, the route passes close to the Schafloch.

At the Sigriswiler Rothorn, the main summit of the Sigriswil ridge, the hike reaches its highest point at around 2,050 m. Almost the entire ascent follows a mountain hiking trail; sure-footedness and stamina are required for the climb of just over 1,100 metres. Here, views open up across the elongated mountain ridge and the surrounding peaks.

The descent leads down open slopes and back into the forest. On the final section, the trail broadens again and returns to Schwanden, Säge. Just over five hours should be allowed for the twelve-kilometre circuit, which closes at the nearby bus stop.
