01/ Overview

The route

Between Heiligenschwendi and Schwanden, the Planet Trail brings cosmic distances down to earth. Woodland, alpine pastures and an optional loop to the Blueme observation tower accompany the walk, which takes just under three hours.

From the Heiligenschwendi, Alpenblick bus stop, the Sirius Planet Trail initially leads between the houses and soon enters the forest. Information panels relate the distances between celestial bodies to the trail; the full route covers around ten kilometres and takes just under three hours. Meadows and pastures open up between stretches of woodland as the trail steadily gains elevation.

Not quite halfway along the route, the highest point is reached near Blueme at around 1,310 m. An optional loop leads to the Blueme observation tower, with its sweeping Alpine panorama. The broad hiking trail then descends via Tschingelallmi towards Schwanden; a short section runs outside the marked hiking trail network.

The lowest point is reached by the houses of Schwanden. The route then climbs once more to the Sirius Observatory and Planetarium, where the trail ends. The nearest bus stop, Schwanden (Sigriswil), Dorf, is around 700 m from the actual end point.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
