01/ Overview

The route

A strenuous start, followed by extensive woodland, open pastures and a long descent: this high-level hike links Krattigen with Leissigen and ends directly on the shores of Lake Thun.

The route begins in the heart of the village at the Krattigen, Dorf bus stop. It initially climbs steeply, leaving the houses behind and soon entering the forest. Alternating between open meadows and shady woodland, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads up to the highest point near Greberegg, at around 1,060 m. After just under three kilometres, the main ascent is complete; from there, a long, gentle descent defines the route.

Pastures and woodland alternate on the way towards Leissigen. Near the end of the descent, Hotel Meielisalp lies directly on the route. From there, the trail continues downhill until the first houses of Leissigen come into view. In the village, it passes the church and eventually reaches Lake Thun. After a good ten kilometres and just under three hours, the hike ends in Leissigen; the Leissigen (See) bus stop is only a few minutes’ walk from the finish.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
