01/ Overview
The route
A short, steady ascent links Leissigen railway station with Meielisalp. Between open meadows and woodland, the trail gains around 220 metres in elevation, with views of Lake Thun at the start.
The short ascent to Meielisalp begins at Leissigen railway station. At first, the route leads through the village, with views of Lake Thun opening up between the houses. After a short section outside the marked hiking trail network, the yellow-marked hiking trail takes over and quickly leaves the built-up area behind.
Open meadows characterise the lower section, after which the route continues through woodland. The trail climbs almost continuously, gaining around 220 metres in total, but remains easy and straightforward throughout. Meielisalp soon comes into view. After just under an hour, the highest point is reached at Hotel Meielisalp, at around 790 m.
The hike ends at Meielisalp. There is no public transport stop directly at the destination: the nearest stop, Leissigen, Schulhaus, is around 800 m away.
