This leg leads along the banks of the Aare to the Weissenau nature conservation area by Lake Thun. From Neuhaus, the route takes you through woodland with lots of unobstructed views of Lake Thun and a panorama of the Bernese Alps. The St. Beatus caves with their stalactites and stalagmites, grottos, gorges and streams are particularly impressive.

From the Unterseen, Stedtlizentrum bus stop, the route leads to the Aare. The river soon accompanies the trail through the flat riverside landscape. At the Weissenau ruins, the remains of a 13th-century lowland castle, Lake Thun is already close. A little later, the trail reaches the lakeshore itself.

After Sundlauenen, the longest ascent begins. The hiking trail climbs through the forest to the St. Beatus Caves, a network of limestone caves below Beatenberg. Shortly before the caves, the route reaches its highest point at around 730 metres. Clearings repeatedly open up between the trees before the trail heads back towards the lake.

Towards the end, forest, open meadows and built-up areas alternate. One longer section runs outside the marked hiking trail network. After a total of 13 kilometres and just under four hours, the hike ends in Spiez, only a few steps from the boat landing.
