Panorama Rundweg Thunersee, Stage 3/4

Starting in Interlaken, the hike hugs Lake Thun before continuing on via Därligen to the Meielisalp up above Leissigen. Enchanting panoramic views are provided by the suspension bridge over the Spissibach stream. Finally, the route continues past Faulensee via Krattigen. The end point for this stage is Spiez with its vineyards and castle – the latter, towering over the town, serves as its characteristic symbol.

From Interlaken West railway station, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail leads out of the town towards Därligen. The route then climbs between open meadows and stretches of woodland to Meielisalp. The long opening section makes clear just how much countryside lies between Interlaken and Spiez.

Beyond Meielisalp, the ascent continues. Near Greberegg, the hike reaches its highest point at around 1,070 m. The climbs amount to a total elevation gain of around 750 metres. Alternating between pastures and woodland, the trail then descends to Krattigen and continues through sparsely settled countryside.

Towards the end, the route enters the forest at Bürg once more. Shortly afterwards, Lake Thun comes into view, and the final section runs directly along its shore to Spiez. Schloss Spiez stands near the destination, with the boat landing stage just a few steps away. Just under six hours should be allowed for the 20-kilometre hike.
