Unterseener-Uferweg

Starting in Interlaken, this varied path leads along the banks of the River Aare and the shore of Lake Thun through Unterseen. In addition to the waters, the ancient fortress ruins and nature reserve at Weissenau are also truly eye-catching.

From Interlaken West railway station, the hike initially leads through the residential area of Unterseen. The 17th-century castle lies slightly off the route. Within the first kilometre, the almost level path reaches its highest point at around 570 m. The houses then recede, giving way to meadows and woodland.

For just over an hour, the yellow-waymarked hiking trail continues towards Weissenau. At the ruins of Weissenau, a medieval lowland castle dating from the 13th century, history comes right up to the route. Woodland, open areas and wet meadows then alternate. Before long, the path runs directly beside Lake Thun, with views across the water to the opposite shore. The lake opens up the previously rather enclosed landscape. The final metres lead through the flat shoreline area to Neuhaus. The five-kilometre hike ends at the nearby Unterseen, Neuhaus bus stop.
