01/ Overview

The route

From Bönigen the trail leads alongside the lake, turning right towards the forest after about 1 km. You reach the light-flooded waterfall Eschwanden along a narrow forest path. The hike continues through the forest and alongside a cliff face where you reach the pilgrims' path and the Fura above Iseltwald.

From the Bönigen, See bus stop, the route heads towards Iseltwald. The houses are soon left behind as the yellow-marked hiking trail climbs across open meadows. The approximately seven-kilometre tour gains around 320 metres in elevation and remains pleasantly moderate.

The route then enters the forest. Gently undulating, the trail winds through the slopes near Senggfluh. The highest point lies at around 730 m. The route then gradually descends, with the shore of Lake Brienz appearing between the trees.

Towards the end, the trail runs directly alongside the lake. Its steep shores continue below the surface, which is why there are only a few shallow-water areas. Following the water’s edge, the route soon reaches Iseltwald. After just over two hours, the hike ends near the Iseltwald, Dorfplatz bus stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
