01/ Overview
The route
The old rack railway line offers views of Lake Lucerne and the Schwyz valley basin. Meadows, woodland edges and the glacial Druidenstein define this short circular hike from Morschach.
From the village square in Morschach, the Panorama Trail initially leads out of the village towards Axenstein. Following the route of the former rack railway that once served the grand hotels, views open up across Lake Lucerne and into the Schwyz valley basin. Part of this circuit follows the Swiss Path.
Beyond Wilgis, the route crosses open meadows and follows the edge of the woodland to Schwyzerhöchi. Along the way stands the Druidenstein, a granite boulder deposited during the Ice Age. The trail then continues uphill, reaching its highest point near Charenstöckli at around 840 m. It carries on via the Rüti holiday farm, passing the Fyrabigbeizli Nägelisgärtli.
The hiking trail now descends again via Ried and Dägenbalm. Shortly before Morschach, a detour to the Lourdes grotto is possible. Passing through the first houses, the circuit of just under six kilometres returns to the village square in Morschach after a little over an hour and a half.

Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
