01/ Overview
The route
It is (hopefully) only cross-border in sporting terms: the challenging snowshoe hike from "Siberia of Switzerland" to France. From La Brévine, the route climbs over snow-covered pastures, through secluded fir forests and up to Mont Châteleu for some long-distance views.
From the La Brévine, poste stop, it is only a few steps to the starting point in the village. The nine-kilometre snowshoe tour soon leaves the houses behind and climbs across open pastures. After just under three kilometres, the route passes the Auberge du vieux Châteleu. From there, the ascent continues, with stretches of forest later also shaping the surroundings.
Around halfway, the circuit reaches its highest point near Crêt du Cervelet at approximately 1,300 m. The total ascent and descent each amount to around 380 metres. The route then turns back and gradually loses altitude. Alternating between woodland and open terrain, it returns to the first houses of the village. After around four hours, the snowshoe trail ends at its starting point in La Brévine, a few steps from the La Brévine, poste stop.

Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
