01/ Overview
The route
In winter, this is a wonderful route linking the Val-de-Travers and the 360° panoramic view from the summit of Le Chasseron. After an enjoyable climb through pine trees and pastures, once you reach the broad ridge you are rewarded by a breath-taking view from the Doubs to the Alps.
The nine-kilometre snowshoe trail begins at the top station of the La Robella chairlift. From La Petite-Robella, the route climbs through open Jura countryside. It steadily gains altitude across meadows and pastures, with a total ascent of around 440 metres. About halfway along, the Chasseron takes centre stage. Here, the trail reaches its highest point at just over 1,600 m. The Hôtel du Chasseron is also located near the summit, around 150 m off the route.
Around the Chasseron, the open terrain becomes rockier. The second half then descends back towards La Robella. The descent remains mainly on the broad Jura heights, losing the 440 metres gained earlier. After just over four hours, the circuit ends at the top station of the chairlift, immediately beside the La Robella (télésiège) stop.
