The route
This hiking trail between Col des Etroits, L’Auberson and the Mont-des-Cerfs offers a chance to discover the natural beauty of the Vaud Jura landscape. History buffs might appreciate a detour to the Museum of Mechanical Art and Heritage in Sainte-Croix.
The snowshoe trail begins directly beside the Ste-Croix, Col-des-Etroits bus stop. The pass of the same name lies in the Vaud Jura and links the southern foot of the Jura with the French department of Doubs. From the pass, the route initially descends through open terrain. After just over two kilometres, it reaches its lowest point, and the houses of L’Auberson then come into view.
The trail then climbs again via Les Grangettes. Meadows and pastures alternate with stretches of forest as the route steadily gains elevation towards Mont des Cerf. The summit lies off the route; near its wooded flank, the hike reaches its highest point at around 1,250 m.
From there, the route descends across more open Jura terrain. In total, the snowshoe trail covers around eight kilometres, with approximately 280 metres of ascent and descent. After just over three hours, it ends at Mont-des-Cerfs.
