01/ Overview

The route

In the footsteps of the Walser people, wearing snowshoes. The Walser village of Bosco Gurin is the highest village in the Ticino canton and a popular winter sports and ski resort. A short loop, away from the ski pistes, takes you through some marvellous snowy mountain scenery.

The start is located slightly outside the village; the nearest stop, Bosco/Gurin, Paese, is about 330 m away. The short loop gains altitude quickly and leads up across open, snow-covered pastures; at just over 1,630 m the highest point lies near Pizzo Bombögn. The route comprises roughly 130 m of ascent and can be completed in about an hour.

The descent returns toward the village, with the terrain soon opening up again. Near the end the view opens onto the Chiesa dei Santi Giacomo e Cristoforo and the Ristorante Walser, which lie a little off the path. The route finishes back at Bosco Gurin, Ferder.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
