Firstly, along the Klöntalersee reservoir surrounded by steep rock faces. A decent to Glarus then follows - From the dam of the artificial lake through a narrow valley with steep rock faces and imposing boulders lapped by the bubbling Löntsch waters.

The approximately 14-kilometre hike begins at the Klöntal, Plätz bus stop in the upper Klöntal. At the Gasthaus zum Klöntal, the yellow-marked trail passes the last houses and soon emerges between woodland and open pastures. The ascent remains gentle; after around four kilometres, the highest point is reached at approximately 860 metres.

Shortly afterwards, the trail runs directly beside the Klöntalersee. This natural lake was formed by slope subsidence and a rockslide and has been dammed to create a reservoir with an earth-fill dam. From here, woodland dominates the long descent towards the valley floor. Clearings and open meadows provide variety before another rest area is reached beside the trail at the Sitenwald barbecue site.

At Riedern, the tranquil woodland gradually gives way to the built-up area. In Glarus, the route passes the neo-Romanesque Stadtkirche, built between 1863 and 1866. A little later, the hike of just over three and a half hours ends at Glarus railway station.
