01/ Overview
The route
In the Canada-like Oberseetal valley, a family-friendly circular trail with some great views leads through a picturesque landscape with pinewood forests and lush meadows.
The circular hike begins at Obersee above Näfels. The starting point is not served by public transport; the nearest stop, Näfels, Krumm, is around 3 km away. Initially, a yellow-waymarked hiking trail climbs through a landscape characterised by woodland and open meadows. After the first section, the path narrows and continues uphill as a mountain hiking trail.
After just under four kilometres, the highest point of the route is reached at around 1,470 m, near Bärensoolspitz. This is followed by the longer, varied middle section: the mountain trail leads through stretches of forest and across open pastures before becoming an easier hiking trail again. Towards the end, the route reaches Obersee and runs directly along its shore. From there, the loop closes at the starting point. Just under four hours should be allowed for the 11 km route with around 660 metres of ascent.
