Glarus-Rundweg

This tour leads through the smallest capital town, Glarus. The hike is shaped by nature, culture, history and new discoveries. Along the paths of ancient streams, it provides delightful views of the entire Linthe valley from the Tödi to the Linthebene.

From Glarus railway station, the circular hike initially leads out of town and climbs across open meadows towards Rüti. Shortly after the hamlet, the route reaches its highest point at around 670 m. This means the main ascent is completed early on. At Rütihof, the route follows an unmarked path for a short stretch before rejoining the yellow-waymarked hiking trail.

The route continues through meadows and along the edges of woodland to Aueliwald. The Auelichopf barbecue site lies close to the trail; a little later, the route passes the Uschenriet woodland restaurant. This is where the long return leg along the Linth begins. River, woodland and open spaces now define the scenery as the trail gradually leads back into the built-up area.

After around ten kilometres and just under three hours, the circuit ends back at Glarus railway station. The route involves a total ascent of approximately 400 metres; the early climb and the flatter section by the river give this easy tour its clear rhythm.
