01/ Overview
The route
The hiking trail rises above the tree line and passes beautiful mountain lakes and high alpine meadows dotted with boulders. The colours and shapes of the formidable, often steeply sloping and rocky mountain ranges are very impressive.
The 13-kilometre mountain hike begins at Oberer Murgsee, directly beside the mountain inn. The starting point is far from public transport; the nearest stop, Wart, is around 5½ kilometres away. Right from the start, the white-red-white waymarked trail climbs towards Widersteiner Furggel. A longer descent then follows through open countryside framed by rocky ridges.
A broader hiking trail climbs again across pastures. Later, the terrain becomes more barren and the mountain trail steadily gains altitude. The rockiest section begins at Wissmeilenpass. Shortly afterwards, the route reaches its highest point at around 2'420 m, below Wissmeilen.
The descent leads across the Mad Plateau to Madseeli, a mountain lake at just under 2'200 m. A little later, Spitzmeilenhütte stands at the edge of the high plateau. After just under five hours, the tour ends here; the nearest public transport stop, Panüöl, is just over three kilometres away.

How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
