01/ Overview
The route
This unobstructed hiking trail runs from Ziegelbrücke to Weesen along the Linth River. Besides the stunning view of the Glarus Alps, it offers a fantastic vista of deep blue Lake Walen in Weesen.
The hike begins almost immediately from the Ziegelbrücke stop. The yellow-marked hiking trail passes the first few houses before emerging into open, flat countryside. Over the four kilometres, there are only around 20 metres of ascent and descent respectively. Even the highest point on the route is just 426 m above sea level. Away from the route, the wooded Biberlichopf and its two summits rise above the plain.
Wide meadows and pastures define the middle section, before the houses of Weesen draw closer in the final third. Shortly afterwards, the route reaches Walensee, whose main inflow and outflow is the Linth. At the water’s edge, the open surroundings give way once more to a built-up area. The trail remains almost level and passes the Brasserie du Lac. After just under an hour, the hike ends at the Weesen, See stop, located directly at the destination.
