Sardona-Welterbe-Weg

This tour affords a unique insight into the UNESCO World Heritage Swiss Tectonic Area Sardona. The little-known border area of cantons St. Gallen, Glarus and Graubunden is the best place in the world to observe the processes and evidence of mountain formation.

From the Filzbach, Sportzentrum bus stop, the trail climbs out of Filzbach to Talalpsee and Oberer Murgsee. Between forest and open alpine pastures, the hiking trail soon becomes a mountain trail. Crossing the Mad plateau with the Madseeli, the route reaches the Spitzmeilenhütte; from there, it continues in a series of long ascents and descents through increasingly rocky terrain to Weisstannen.

South of the village, the route briefly follows the Gufelbach. The Batöni waterfalls lie slightly off the route in the valley basin. The next steep ascent leads over the Heidelpass to the Plattenseeli and onwards to the Sardonahütte at the end of the Calfeisental. The mountain trail then crosses the 2,467 m Heubützlipass and later reaches the Foopass on the cantonal border.

In the final quarter, the route climbs steeply once more. Near the Grosses Tschingelhorn, the highest point of the entire tour lies at around 2,630 m. This is followed by the long descent to Flims, mostly through open terrain and forest. The destination is away from public transport; the nearest stop, Panüöl, is just over three kilometres away.
