01/ Overview
The route
A slightly hilly trail set in the scenic countryside of the Ricken upland moor. Several shortcuts make it an ideal choice for hobby skiers and families. The Bildhuus turning point affords breathtaking views across the Linth Plain to the mountains of Glarus and Central Switzerland.
It is only a few steps from the Ricken SG, Uznacherstrasse stop to the start in Ricken. The ten-kilometre trail leaves the houses behind and sweeps in a broad arc across open meadows. At first, the Rickenpass also forms part of the surroundings; after that, gentle undulations define the profile. Rather than one long ascent, short climbs and descents alternate, adding up to around 180 metres of elevation gain.
About halfway round, the trail reaches its lowest section. Near Bildhaus, it turns back without leading directly to the restaurant. Wet meadows and areas of moorland now appear more frequently alongside the open terrain. The trail gradually climbs again and, shortly before the end near Tönnerenegg, reaches its highest point at around 800 metres.
From there, it leads across open countryside back to the first houses of Ricken and the starting point by the stop.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
