Rigi Scheidegg-Weg

This impressive tour features countless highlights, ranging from the «former Republic» of Gersau at the lake, the ascent to mountain pastures and the typical Rigi landscape on Rigi Scheidegg, with a magnificent panoramic view of the Alps and the midland.

The hike starts at the Gersau (See) stop, just a few steps from Lake Lucerne. The trail begins climbing straight out of the village, with little time to warm up. Open slopes and sections of forest soon alternate, while the lake is quickly left far below. After the first section, the mountain path becomes steeper and calls for a steady pace on the long ascent.

By the Restaurant Zum Gätterlipass, a good part of the elevation gain has been completed. The yellow-marked hiking trail then continues at a gentler pace across open pastures and through occasional stretches of woodland. Shortly before the destination, it passes Restaurant Burggeist. The final metres climb once more to Rigi Scheidegg, the highest point of the route at around 1,640 m. After eight kilometres and just under four hours, the hike ends directly at the Rigi Scheidegg stop. The total ascent amounts to around 1,250 metres, while the descent is negligible.
