01/ Overview
The route
Spruce forests, bridges and the babbling Valünabach river are just three of the many highlights in the Steg/Valüna cross-country skiing area, which offers 13 kilometres of well-maintained trails winding their way through a quiet and diverse landscape.
The trail begins in Steg, well away from public transport; the nearest stop, Weite, Lonna/Heuwiese, is around six kilometres away. From the starting point, the twelve-kilometre circuit leads through largely open terrain. With no notable intermediate destinations, the first section is defined by a steady ascent, gaining around 300 metres in elevation overall.
Just over halfway round, the trail reaches its highest point at around 1'450 m. Naafkopf is the nearest summit as the route gradually changes direction. Broad expanses dominate the view, clearly revealing the differences in elevation. The trail then descends again across the open terrain. The circuit reaches its lowest point near the end, before returning to its starting point in Steg after just over three hours and twenty minutes.

03/ Conditions
Current conditions
What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.
How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.
Cross-country skiing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.
How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
