01/ Overview
The route
A descent on the Samnaun toboggan run has to be earned: first one has to hike from Samnaun Dorf via Motta Saltuorn to the viewpoint above Val Motnaida, before coming back down the same way on a togoggan.
The toboggan run starts at the viewpoint at around 2,140 m, near Zigerköpfli. The nearest bus stop, Samnaun-Ravaisch, Sportanlagen, is around 700 m away; there is no direct public transport connection at the starting point. From the highest point, the three-kilometre descent begins, dropping approximately 300 metres in elevation by the time it reaches the village.
Initially, the toboggan run leads through forest, which characterises the upper section of the route. Further down, the terrain opens out into meadows and pastures as the houses of Samnaun draw closer. On the final section, the descent enters the built-up area; the Maria Hilf chapel and Hotel Post lie slightly off the route. After around 40 minutes, the toboggan run finally ends in Samnaun Dorf, just a few steps from the Samnaun-Dorf, Votlas bus stop.
