01/ Overview

The route

A great sledging adventure, between the magical snowy forests and the breathtaking mountains: 11 kilometres of pure fun overlooking the Matterhorn.

From the Fiescheralp public transport stop, it is only a few steps to the start of the roughly eleven-kilometre sledging run. The route begins its descent right by the Alpenlodge Kühboden. The highest point is right at the start, at around 2'210 m; from here, the route drops some 1'150 metres in elevation to Lax.

Open slopes alternate with longer stretches of forest as the route steadily loses elevation for most of the way. In the lower section, the houses of Lax draw closer and the open landscape gives way to the village. The Church of St. Anna lies slightly off the route. Shortly afterwards, after just under two and a half hours, the sledging run ends in Lax at around 1'050 m. Lax railway station is only a few steps from the end point.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Sledding is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
