01/ Overview

The route

High above Engelberg, the Obertrübsee Snowshoe Trail awaits nature-loving ramblers and ambitious athletes alike. Can there be a more wonderful feeling than leaving traces in the fresh powder snow as you wander up hill and down dale, through tranquil forests?

From Trübsee station, the snowshoe route reaches the Trüebsee after just a few minutes. The mountain lake lies at 1,763 m on the Ober Trüebsee alp, between Engelberg and the Titlis. The circuit through open alpine terrain begins on the lakeshore. It initially passes Chrüzhubel before descending in broad curves to the route’s lowest point at just over 1,700 m.

From there, the longer counter-ascent begins. The route climbs steadily across open slopes and turns towards Bitzistock without reaching its summit. Just over two-thirds of the way round, the tour reaches its highest point at around 1,850 m. The circuit then descends through open terrain back to the Trüebsee, ending after six kilometres and just under three hours at Trübsee station.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: SLF only publishes its snow maps from November 1. Until then we roughly estimate the snow depth at the lowest and the highest point of the route every day from the nearest SLF measuring stations. Check the situation on site.
