01/ Overview
The route
The Grotzli Trail on the Fürenalp whisks you away to a place of tranquillity where you can forget the hustle and bustle and simply enjoy nature.
The short snowshoe circuit across the open alpine pastures above Engelberg begins at the Fürenalp cable car station. The route initially descends gently before beginning a longer ascent. With few changes of direction, it crosses the broad terrain and steadily gains height. After just under two kilometres, the highest point is reached at around 1,900 m, with Wissberg nearby. Altogether, the compact circuit involves around 200 metres of ascent.
The route then turns back downhill. For part of the final third, it follows the Fürenbach, which traces a distinct line through the open landscape. A few short counter-ascents interrupt the return before the snowshoe route approaches Fürenalp once more. After around three kilometres and just over an hour and a half, the snowshoe trail ends back at the cable car station.
