01/ Overview

The route

The trail from the idyllic Lake Arni to Vorderarni affords views of the Reuss Valley and across the mountains. This trail takes you over easy terrain with gentle ups and downs.

The snowshoe circuit starts at Gasthaus Alpenblick by the Arnisee stop. Initially, it leads through the Arnialp in gentle undulations. Open meadows and pastures dominate the landscape, with the route repeatedly dipping into the forest in between.

After the lowest point at around 1,290 m, the circuit begins to climb gradually. Near Restaurant Arnisee, the terrain opens up again, and shortly afterwards the route reaches the shore of Arnisee. The small lake lies on the Arnialp at around 1,370 m, adding a tranquil note to the broad expanse.

Beyond the lake, the final ascent leads to the highest point at just over 1,400 m near Sunniggratli. From there, the route descends through open terrain and forest back to the starting point by the Arnisee stop.

03/ Conditions

Current conditions

What to know before you set off. Closures and snow are re-checked every day.

  • How we check: Every night we match the route against the official closures and detours from the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO). Any reported closure that touches the route shows up here.

  • How we check: We look up a live public transport connection from your starting point to the stop closest to the trailhead. If it ends further away, the nearest stop may be a cable car or bus that isn't running right now.

  • Snowshoeing is more fun in the snow! Check local conditions before heading out.

How we check: Snow depth estimated daily at the lowest and the highest point of the route. Estimates: check the situation on site.
